Amazonite beads were found in the royal tombs of Ur from the Sumerian period (3800 BC). The pre-Columbian Indian tribes of the Tumaco-Tolita culture (approx. 300 - 500 AD) also valued Amazonite and used it to make jewelry and cult objects.
